Vad tar man med sig tillbaka från Rotarys stora årliga kick-off för blivande guvernörer, International Assembly i Orlando?
Under fem intensiva dagar 9-13 februari träffades rotaryledare från hela världen. Vi var därför nyfikna på att höra vad vår kommande distriktsguvernör Per-Olov Karlsson, (P-O), Landskrona Citadell och Anita Esi Otoo, president i Malmö-Lunds Rotaractklubb särskilt tar med sig hem till vårt distrikt.
Vad var det mest oväntade som hände under Assembly?
P-O: Under onsdagskvällen var det en kulturell kväll, där respektive partner skulle bidra till att framhäva det egna landets speciella särart. Det blev en mäktig upplevelse, med färgsprakande kläder och inte minst senare på kvällen, som var lite oväntat för mig; spontana danståg med olika länder som dansade runt i olika tåg. Allt detta under bar himmel, då vi denna kväll satt ute och fick njuta av en buffé med mat från hela världen. En helt magisk upplevelse!
Esi: One of the most unexpected experiences at the event was being invited to join the welcome parade for President-elect Mário César Martins de Camargo and his wife, Denise. During the welcome reception, all Rotaractors were invited to join the Brazilian delegation that ushered President-elect Mário into the main conference hall, while waving Brazilian flags and following traditional Samba dancers. It was such a pleasant surprise to have such this lovely invitation and a truly incredible experience and atmosphere.
Är det något under eventet som vi kan dra nytta av när vi genomför våra egna distriktsevent eller för den delen klubbmöten?
P-O: Att skapa tid o möjlighet att prata är en viktig del, som vi behöver tänka på, både i distrikts- och klubbsammanhang.
Esi: One of the things I enjoyed most from the International Assembly were the breakout sessions where we got to discuss different topics. These breakout sessions consisted of both DGEs and at least 1 Rotaractor. I believe this is a great initiative to implement in our District, to engage with Rotaractors at District events and give them a seat at the table. Because we have different perspectives and experiences, having diversity in our events and discussions will produce more innovative, fresh, and exciting ideas that can bring about impacts.
Vilka budskap blev tydliga för oss att ta med in i framtiden?
P-O: Väldigt tydligt budskap från Mario, att bilda nya klubbar och se till så att Rotary växer. Men att vi då är innovativa och tittar på nya klubbmodeller för att lyckas. Paul Harris har sagt att "Rotary must at all times be evelutionary, but sometimes Revolutionary". det är kanske dags att bli lite mer Revolutionary.
Esi: One of the running themes for the IA was the Action Plan and how important it is for District leadership to help members understand the plan and streamline their activities towards that goal. Another important thing worthy of note is the
Presidential theme for 2025-2026, Unite for Good. During his keynote speech, President-elect Mário highlighted the importance of collaborating with other organizations, local or international, to achieve our project goals and objectives. Rotary International has partnered with great organizations such as UNICEF, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, etc and these partnerships have really skyrocketed Rotary’s global impacts. In our local clubs and communities, we have to also be actively engaged in partnering with other organizations to make impacts in the world.
Vad inspirerades ni av mest?
P-O: Det var mycket som inspirerade, men många möten med människor från andra länder, och deras sätt att utveckla Rotary. Men också att faktiskt bli bättre på målstyrningen, att jobba för att inte bara stanna vid "Outcome" utan det är "Impact" som är det slutliga målet.
Esi: The most inspiring thing for me was my Rotaractor colleagues. They were all leaders making great impacts in their communities, and had also been nominated to represent their Zones at the International Assembly. Through our meetings and interactions, I learned so much from these young leaders and felt so inspired to continue doing good work with Rotaract and Rotary.
Vad kan vi förvänta oss av vår nästa världspresident?
P-O: Det är en person som kommer att arbeta hårt för det här med att se till så att Rotary växer. Självklart genom att bidra till att göra gott, men om vi inte även fokuserar på att växa, då blir det svårt att göra någon skillnad i världen till sist. Det finns inget stabilt läge, antingen utvecklas vi, eller så avvecklas vi.
Esi: One thing is for sure, President-elect Mário has a focus on two key things, the rising generation and uniting in partnership with key stakeholders in local and global communities to do good in the world. I believe he has a vision for Rotary that will engage the global Rotary community to seek out innovative solutions to problems through creating connections with the younger generation. He deeply wants Rotaract and Interact to be empowered because he believes we are the future of Rotary. I believe it is safe to say that we can expect some fresh ideas on how to engage Rotaract and the new generation in Rotary, and how we can work together to achieve our goals.

P-O: Presidentens budskap för 2025 - 2026 var "Unite for good". Ett budskap som vi kan läsa in mycket i, och som vi nu ska ha med oss i det fortsatta arbetet.
Esi: The major news highlight was the presentation of the new theme, Unite for Good.
P-O: Övrigt; Att vara medlem i Rotary vet vi ju rent intellektuellt att det innebär ett internationellt perspektiv. Men, när du står där vid flaggparaden och alla länder som Rotary finns i representeras med flaggor, då blir du verkligen ödmjuk. Och vid middagarna på kvällarna, när du hamnar hos alla möjliga människor, från hela världen, en fantastisk upplevelse.
